Take Me Home Tonight 2011 Take Me Home Tonight 2011 User Reviews

The film does a good job of pulling off a classic 80's throwback feel and definitely accomplishes what it set out to do. If it had actually came out in that decade though it probably wouldn't have been much of a standout but it could have been a mildly loved looked over gem . As romantic comedy premises go, this one is just fine, and predictably, the relationship between the two down and out protagonists grows with their own mutual understanding. The most interesting part of this movie to me is that Sam and Amber Jaeger, the leads, are real-life husband and wife, and this seemed to make a big difference to me. The knowing looks that they give each other and the affection that they display are just full of reality and feeling, and I really sensed something different from all other rom-com movies I have seen. The movie is not without flaws, but it is really interesting to see these two actors create characters from the real feelings that they have about each other as people.

Matt finds Tori and tries to apologize, but she is unwilling to forgive him. Feeling he has nothing to lose, Matt volunteers to "ride the ball", hitting several parked cars then flying off an embankment, landing in a backyard swimming pool. He almost drowns before escaping the sinking ball. 80s nostalgia as a thing is so ten years ago... Just about the time that the 33-year-old Topher Grace would have been the right age to play just-out-of-college, I-dunno-what-to-do-with-myself whiner...

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT Review

Your high school class had some kind of cockamamie ritual test involving the Ball (I may have the name wrong, but I'm close). This is a large metal sphere, apparently hammered together out of old junkyard parts. While this movie will never be confused with a big blockbuster movie, or one that will win an Oscar, it is indeed very smartly written and acted. Unusual for films written by actors for themselves, the film consists of no actorly grandstanding, big egotistical moments or camera hogging.

The cast of Take Me Home Tonight do their best to keep the movie afloat in the raging seas of 80s nostalgia. The actors play well off each other, understand their characters, and have solid comic timing. But rather than let these characters breathe and emote in a movie that happens to take place in the 80s, the characters of Take Me Home Tonight are always overshadowed by the fact that they're in an 80s movie.

Verified reviews are considered more trustworthy by fellow moviegoers. Let the buyer beware--if you are not into rom-com and would rather watch the Terminator, this is not your movie. Plenty of other laughs come from inoffensive settings or scenes, so everything is not completely horrible.

I usually prefer action movies with a bit of chemistry tossed in, but this was nice. It is a good cuddle on the couch, lazy rainy day movie that, while you won't get great quotes, will leave you with a good feeling at the end. What "Take Me Home" aims for is a light, believable sincerity, a sweetness that we all recognize and sometimes need, and which doesn't get too too sugary. And on that level it's a really enjoyable movie. And it really does make you want to hit the road.

things to do in Idyllwild, an eclectic mountaintop town that still feels like a secret

She had been driving the night before, they both fell asleep and she drove somewhere into the desert. They had to find the road again and get a tow to fix the car that wouldn't start. What's not fine is that, like too many movies, the director and/or scriptwriter treat us like idiots who have never seen a movie before. The first fifteen minutes are a waste of time, setting up the characters in a way that's utterly unnecessary; and there are a few similar such moments through the rest of the movie where we are told the obvious.

It's refreshing to see her in the smart girl role. Her relationship with her brother is surprisingly nuanced for an 80's flick. So yeah, it's between a 5 and 6 for me, but I'd be loathe to recommend it to the masses. With the 80s candy coating not making the movie any sweeter, the film's other flaws begin to show.

That this movie did not hit the US box offices is a sad statement about the state of the industry. Amber Jaeger was simply outstanding as Claire. But all other things being equal, had Take Me Home been made twenty years earlier with Sandra Bullock in the lead female role, it would have been appreciated for how good it really is. Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood.

Perhaps the strongest part of the film is its rocking, '80s soundtrack. The movie does a good job at capturing the fun of the decade complete with shiny attire, bright colors, crazy dance moves and side ponytails. Those are the mentions given out on the Internet every year of people whose deaths may have improved the species by removing them from the gene pool. Many of the characters in "Take Me Home Tonight" might make a contribution in that way. I like road trip films/books/tropes and this one wasn't as predictable as I thought it was going to be.

Producer-star Topher Grace, moving up a decade from That ’70s Show, plays Matt Franklin, an MIT grad working at Suncoast Video while deciding what to do with his life. In a Mercedes stolen by his pal Barry , Matt hits a Labor Day blowout filled with blow (the drug use delayed the R-rated film’s release). He’s invited by unrequited high school crush Tori Frederking , now an investment banker, who’s impressed when Matt lies that he’s a rising star at Goldman Sachs. Sure, Grace’s Matt Franklin, is momentarily directionless despite an engineering degree from MIT.

If the video store gig wasn’t bad enough, his romantic prospects are nonexistent. He’s still harboring a crush on the girl he spent “seven minutes in heaven” with — and did nothing — when they were kids. The crush turns up, beautiful still and now a rising commodities trader.

At the party, Matt awkwardly tries to woo her. Barry snorts some cocaine he found in the glove box of the stolen car and gets involved in a dance-off, and Kyle proposes to Wendy in front of everyone. Matt is disappointed she accepted, as he doesn't think Kyle will support her attending graduate school. It's a fun movie - great 80's music (surprised to hear a little "Jet Fighter" from The Three O'Clock - played at my high school...). Yes, it's well-worn territory, but Barry, the friend, is hilarious and makes it for me. Grace seems to play the same role in every movie, but he works in this one.

Faris, usually a comedic gem, falls a bit flat in this film. Her demeanor is bland and her character fails to leave an impression or even induce a laugh. The main comedic relief comes in the form of Fogler. One of the funniest parts of the film is when he gets propositioned by a M.I.L.F to get it on with her in front of her husband. The scene is painfully funny and Fogler maintains his comedic charm throughout. You want to impress a girl named Tori you lusted after in school.

Take Me Home Tonight takes it a step forward going for 'what next? And it succeeds, while not going too serious and keeping it feel-good in the lines of the aforesaid movies. Topher Grace, one of the co-writers of the story, naturally fits into the character drawing from the perfection with which he fitted Eric Foreman of That 70s Show. You can't help feel this i exactly Eric in the 80s (apart from the fact that the character's apparently an MIT grad). One can't help notice the resemblance of Teressa Palmer to Kristen Stewart, but thankfully, she can act a bit.
